SD Virtual Pain Summit (CPTA #20-420) has been approved by the California Physical Therapy Association for 1.2 CEU's.

This program consists of intermediate level lectures from predominant pain researchers and clinicians.

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine how sensory input can contribute to chronic pain.
  • Identify how virtual reality can be used in the short term and long term treatment of pain.
  • Identify how blinding can be set up in trials for physical and psychological interventions in the treatment of pain with the use of illusions.
  • Describe how non-prescribing health care providers can help in the space between opioids and adequate pain control/management.
  • Examine the relationship between sleep disturbances and pain and select and implement appropriate screening tools for the most common sleep disorders
  • Identify the Multi-modal Assessment model of Pain (MAP) and how to to facilitate a more compassionate approach to pain management by providing a rationale for why all reported pain should validated, even when poorly understood.
  • Examine interpersonal communication with patients and how we as clinicians contribute to feelings of shame and stigma in our patients.
