The Shoulder w/ Adam

This fast paced, info packed day is designed for ALL therapists who want a simplified, effective, and evidence based approach to painful shoulder assessment and treatment. It is designed to cut through the confusing and conflicting research and condense the many different methods of managing shoulders into one helpful package.

It will be informative, informal, and fun with plenty of helpful ideas and tips that you can put into practice immediately.

Shoulder Objectives:

  • Expose the myths and misconceptions around shoulder anatomy, biomechanics and pathology
  • Simplify your assessment and management of the commonly encountered shoulder issues
  • Explore the evidence on how best to assess and diagnose the common shoulder issues
  • Examine how best to assess shoulder movement, muscle function, proprioception, and the kinetic chain
  • Evaluate shoulder rehab exercises and progressions with chances to practice and rehearse ideas

 

 

The Knee w/ Erik

This day will explore the complexity of human movement and how it applies to the knee. Topics including patellar tendinopathies, ligamentous injuries, meniscal tears, and patellofemoral pain (PFP) will be discussed. There will also be extensive exploration of postoperative management and return to play strategies for common procedures such as anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) and meniscal repairs.

This complex content will be presented in a way that is simple to understand and even simpler to implement by focusing on key concepts in a hierarchical format.

Knee Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explore the current understanding of the mechanisms of injury in knee injuries
  • Perform a simple screen for athletes that may be at higher risk for knee injury or second injury
  • Describe the most effective programs for reducing the risk for lower extremity injuries
  • Focus on primary goals of postoperative rehabilitation to maximize return to sport function
  • Develop a targeted and streamlined exercise progression for maximal benefit
  • Consider the complexity of human movement and how it applies to rehabilitation

About Adam Meakins

Adam has worked in various settings including elite professional sport and has been fortunate enough to work with some of the worlds leading specialists, helping a wide and diverse range of patients recover from many problems. As a qualified Strength and Conditioning Coach Adam recognises the importance of how exercise plays an integral role in the recovery and reduction of injury, and as a keen sportsman himself Adam fully understands the passion, dedication, and desire all athletes, both professional and amateur alike have for a speedy return to fitness and performance after injury. He also fully understands the commitment, passion, and enthusiasm that many athletes have to stay at the top of their game and remain in peak.

Adam has been a lecturer at Brunel University and teaches his own internationally renowned workshops across the world. Adam is also currently involved in a number of clinical research projects and has published papers in peer reviewed journals, and has recently written a chapter for the latest edition of the best selling sports medicine book, Brukner & Khan’s Clinical Sports Medicine. 

 

About Erik Meira, PT, DPT

Erik Meira is a physical therapist with Black Diamond Physical Therapy in Portland, Oregon. He is a Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist and an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with extensive experience in the management of sports injuries at many different levels. He also created and oversees the PT Podcast Network.

Erik is extremely active in the Sports Section serving on the membership committee since 2005, followed by becoming the membership committee team coordinator in 2010. In 2008 he helped initiate, organize, and then chair the Hip Special Interest Group. Since 2012 he has been the Sports Section Program Chair for Combined Sections Meeting (CSM). He has authored several articles and textbook chapters and has lectured at conferences around the world sponsored through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, American Physical Therapy Association, and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association covering topics such as the hip, knee, shoulder, exercise prescription, returning athletes to sport, science application, and PT practice business models.
